Bill: Military Reform
Details
Submitted by[?]: Social Democrat League
Status[?]: defeated
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: December 2206
Description[?]:
We do not feel that drafting young adults is the way to win a war, we will have to rely on our diplomatic relations first and foremost. If necessary our professional, voluntary military should handle any threat to the safety of Malivia. Those that wish to fight, may do so. But those that do not should also be allowed this choice, but also bear the consequences if Malivia is occupied by a foreign power. With this bill we would also like to propose a modernisation of our military, our current equipment is outdated and in need of repair. We propose a small (compared to other endeavours like education) cash injection that would allow our military to once again return to it's full combat capability. A modernisation of our army should also remove the need for a possible draft of citizens in the event of a war. We are in particular talking about our navy and air force. Please keep in mind that these are defensive measures only! We do not seek out conflict, but merely want to see our military ready for any eventualities. |

Message | Disagree. Our jobs aren't to be the presiders over some transition where a foreign power takes over the nation. We are here to protect our nation and our people. No more and no less. This incessant anti-militarism must cease if the Federation is to be truly protected. |

Message | A draft we agree will not aid our nation in a time of war. We should look for volunteers and make the job attractive to our younger generation through training, pay and benefits. We want a highly trained professional force prepared for conflict, not dragging up draftees during a war. |

Message | This isn't about drafting new recruits to fight a war. This is about Federation security in the face of our enemies. What are we to do when a force has landed on our soil? With all our troops exhausted, an organized military will be far more affective than just disorganized rabble. We need to keep all of our options open. Listen to this nation's generals when we say this. Heed our advice for the Federation people. |

Random quote: "In Germany they first came for the Communists and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Communist. Then they came for the Jews, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Jew. Then they came for the trade unionists and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a trade unionist. Then they came for the Catholics, and I didn't speak up because I was a Protestant. Then they came for me--and by that time no one was left to speak up." - Pastor Martin Niemoller |
