Description[?]:
Vicenta Torres, Diputada _________________________________________________________________________ Keeping DNA from people who have been accused of a crime is a direct attack to the principle of presumption of innocence, which establishes that we are all innocent until proven otherwise. For that reason, we must guarantee citizens that the State complies with this norm, and only those individuals whose crimes have been proven will see their DNA stored in the registry. In relation to the legal representation of any defendant, the State is the one that, in the first instance, must have a corps of ex officio lawyers to offer to all citizens, regardless of their social status. If the defendants reject this option, that is when they can, on their own initiative, hire the services of a private lawyer. Vicenta Torres, Deputy |
