Message | Yuri Alderidge, Leader of the Opposition "Free markets are the hallmark of free people. For the state to own industry is for the state to decide who should win and who should lose - it is an implicit limitation on our most cherished freedom to decide for ourselves how we shall live our lives. It's time to return the Talmorian state to its righful place - as a referee in our economy, not as a front-line player." |
Date | 03:35:55, October 05, 2019 CET | From | Black Bloc | To | Debating the Talmorian Free Markets Act |
Message | Olise Kano, Minister for Trade and Industry: "Ah yes, the free markets represented here in Article 2- where failing businesses receive support from the state. This is not about protecting innovation, but instead insuring the rich of this country can continue to get richer at the expense of those who work. If anything promotes competition and the free market and whatever other values the Alliance supposedly supports, it's saying "don't worry, we'll be here to prop you up if you fail at trying to be a money-grubber." |

Message | Alderidge: "So then, the majority party would support the legislation without such subsidization?" |

Message | Olise Kano, Minister for Trade and Industry: "Well it raises other questions, such as how much wealthy foreign investors are paying to the Opposition for the opportunity to profit off our national defense. There is already allowances for private enterprise, but a public option when it comes the the manufacture and purchase of defense equipment serves useful purposes: it allows us to enact certain policies to ensure that otherwise disadvantaged peoples have access to employment. It allows us to have REAL competition to keep prices to the taxpayer low rather than allowing for capture by wealthy businesses. It allows us to ensure that we have a protected access to certain goods and services in case of the worst. I suppose what it doesn't do is allow us to make the rich richer." |
Date | 16:00:32, October 05, 2019 CET | From | United Boroist Cadre | To | Debating the Talmorian Free Markets Act |
Message | Nkiru Ladipo, Ph.D., General Secretary of the United Boroist Cadre, member of the Gbara, and rightful Great Farin: "This is gangsterism in its purest form. The Alliance proposes to dismantle successful, state-run enterprises that serve the interests of the Talmorian people and parcel them off piece meal to titans of industry. And then, to top it all off - Madame Alderidge's proposal is to take the most dismal failures of her capitalist ideology and then subsidize them with the people's money! Are your dreams haunted by the working people that you are stealing from? Or perhaps do those dreams give you some perverse pleasure?" |

Message | Yuri Alderidge, Leader of the Opposition: "As one might expect, attempts to reason with both the Black Plague and the Red Death are ultimately ill-fated. We understand that some politicians believe it their mandate to control the lives of their constituents. It is natural to nationalists, fascists, and communists to seek to quash people in such a way. But the Alliance will not stand for it. We move for a vote." |
