Old value:: The nation shall never purchase, produce, or store biological or chemical weaponry, for military purposes. Research and development of the technology is permitted.
Current: The nation reserves the right to develop, construct and store biological and chemical weapons.
Proposed: The nation shall never develop, purchase or store biological or chemical weaponry.
Article 2
Proposal[?] to change The government's policy towards the use of land mines by the army.
Old value:: The Government leaves this to the army to decide upon.
Current: The use of land mines is allowed.
Proposed: The use of land mines is prohibited.
Article 3

Old value:: All adults upon completion of schooling must serve a term of civilian national service.
Current: All adults upon completion of schooling must serve either a term in the military or a lesser paid term of civilian national service, at their option.

| Message | Although we support the presented measures in principle, as a means of promoting peace for our country and the world (especially articles 1 and (to a lesser extent) 4), we also consider them as rather radical and in some cases unrealistic and potentially dangerous for the population (article 3) and/or inhibitibitive for the defence capabilities of our country (primarily article 2). The fact that no debate preceeded the voting and therefore no input was asked from the other parties in Parliament about this issue of national importance also raises our fears of mismanagement of the defence affairs of our country. In accordance to these reasons, we are forced to abstain from this vote. |
