Message | Mr Speaker, This legislation threatens the very independence of the media that citizens rely on. Subsidizing media only encourages outlets to produce government friendly news coverage in order to gain more funding. While this government would never tie funding to friendly coverage, it is possible that future governments could, and that is a risk we are not willing to take. We hope that our friends in the Naval Party will reconsider their vote on this bill. Hon. Katherine LeClaire MP for Carter City Centre Minister of Education and Culture |

Random fact: In cases where a party has no seat, the default presumption should be that the party is able to contribute to debates in the legislature due to one of its members winning a seat at a by-election. However, players may collectively improvise arrangements of their own to provide a satisfying explanation for how parties with no seats in the legislature can speak and vote there. |
