Message | These proposals go hand in hand with the Expenditure Budget 4719 and the Taxation Budget 4719 introduced by this government on assuming power. There is also a direct link to the Working Place Bill 4718. The intention of the latter Bill was to withdraw state ownership from all but the most critical areas, and simultaneously to place all other industry under private ownership. It was considered whether to still subsidise these newly privatised industries, but on balance it appears a better solution to encourage them to be self-sufficient. However, the current 80% of corporation tax is prohibitive in that regard. This Bill therefore proposes to set the Corporation Tax at 0% indefinitely. It is not necessarily the intention to eliminate the possibility of raising further revenue from this tax at some stage in the future, but at this critical moment in the transition of our country's economics minimum restrictions must be the correct plan. |

Message | The proposal on Sales Tax is much more straightforward. It goes hand in hand with the lowering of income tax levels in the recent budget, and encourages our citizens to exercise more freedom of choice in how they spend their money. The current 10% is not unduly prohibitive, but this sends another clear message to the nation concerning this government's intentions. In any case, essential goods are exactly that - necessary purchases for the whole nation - so why take taxes from everyone (and indeed take more from larger families) when personal taxation can be raised more simply via income tax levels. |

Message | We agree with the lowering of the essential sales tax to 0%. However, because we are not taxing corporations, when every single country in Terra no matter their governmental ideology sets one because it brings in a lot of revenue to fund public spending, this effectively allows the top 1% to shift their income out of most forms of tax and into tax havens, meaning we will lose billions because of tax avoidance. Thus we cannot vote for this bill because of the 0% corporation tax |

Message | We suggest that the Commonwealth of Hutori is a prestigious exception to the rule being stated by the opposition. They also have zero levels of Corporation Tax and Sales Tax on essential goods, as we intend to have until we see the effects taking hold of the economy. They, by the way, still keep their government spending around the 20% of GDP mark. A few further observations might be pertinent: 1. The party opposite has missed the point made in presenting this Bill, to the effect that "it is not necessarily the intention to eliminate the possibility of raising further revenue from this tax at some stage in the future". 2. Having cut the excessive spending of the previous government to a more responsible level of GDP, the point is that, at this time, we no longer need to raise additional revenue. Therefore to maintain a higher level of Corporation Tax would be done purely for some ideological perspective (which we suspect happens to be the motivation of the party opposite - otherwise why would the tax level we inherited have been the very highest in Terra!). 3. Why would profit and/or income be shifted to tax havens when there is zero tax liable after this Bill becomes law? 4. Given the government's intention for the majority of industry to be handed over to private ownership, why would the party opposite protest about doing everything possible to aid the transition and to help them become successful. Again, is the opposition purely driven by ideology perhaps? |

Random fact: Cabinet ministers who disagree seriously with the head of government would usually be expected to resign. Parties within the cabinet may attempt to manoeuvre to replace the head of government though, for example by proposing a new cabinet bill or voting for an early election. |
