| Message | There are already laws in place concerning what firearms may be owned and whether they can be concealed when carried. Both impose restrictions as follows: Existing law #1: Only certain types of weapons may be owned by the general public, and there are further restrictions on places where they may be carried. Existing law #2: People must first obtain a permit in order to carry concealed weapons. It seems incongruous to have another law which states: Individuals are allowed to own firearms as long as they do not have a history of dangerous mental illness or a violent criminality. It is proposed to tidy up this legislation by making it clear in all cases that guns may only be owned under license conditions, and that those are strict in their intent and in their application. |
