MessageThe government has been considering the introduction of a Bill relating to extradition.

In doing so it would wish to consider the merits of all of these options:

a. Not to limit the power of the government to pursue extradition treaties.
b. Make extradition to nations with capital punishment iillegal, unless there are assurances that the death penalty will not be imposed.
c. Make extradition to nations with capital punishment or with cruel or inhumane treatment of suspects and convicts illegal
d. Barring the government from extraditing anyone who is a citizen of the state.

However, some of these options cannot currently be considered, as the Republic is bound by the following international treaties on this subject:

MessageAlthough the current extradition policies of the majority of nations in Terra are compliant with this treaty, only one other country has signed up to ratification of it,

The Republic is therefore in such a small minority of countries in being bound by this treaty that this government has no hesitation in proposing this Bill. The hesitation will be in whether the government thereafter decides to alter our extradition legislation (when we are in complete freedom to be able to do so).
