Message | Honourable Minister al-Hashmi, Some policies must be adjusted on the basis that they never should have been legislated in the first place. The article proposed does not ban those with homosexual feelings from serving the nation, but asks them to operate in that capacity as symbols of our state, which is after all, an officially Ahmadi state. Birlik and its membership observes and is informed by widely-accepted theological teachings on the issue of homosexuality. It is in the spirit of co-operation and unity that we strongly urge the Minister and his government to reverse their decision. With sincerity and respect, Aziz Gunes General-Secretary Birlik (Open letter) |

Message | General-Secretary Gunes, Our government understands your commitment to our shared faith but we do not share your interpretation of the teachings of the Prophet Ahmad. Theological differences of this sort are unlikely to be resolved in policy debate of this sort. We will continue to stand behind the current legislation. Khaalid al-Hashmi Minister of Defence |
Date | 06:32:59, April 11, 2020 CET | From | Vatan Hareketi 🐺 | To | Debating the National Character Act |
Message | Honourable Deputies, Minister; Birlik has withdrawn the legislation as it applies to homosexuals and their service in the military out of urgency. Restoring faith to schools is among our highest priorities. Aziz Gunes General-Secretary Birlik (Open letter) |
