Bill: State Religion Bill 4741

Details

Submitted by[?]: Alliance Party

Status[?]: passed

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: August 4743

Description[?]:

Regardless of the extent of secularism in Mordusia, and amongst political parties it is only fair to reflect that our culture has for many years been predominantly Hosian.

This Bill does not seek to impose religion upon our people. There are no rights being challenged. Freedom of choice will be exactly the same before or after the passing of this bill into law.

The purpose of the Bill is to demonstrate that Parliament acknowledges and reflects our cultural heritage - and that there is a dominant religious belief which should be appreciated by the State.

MessageThough we understand the reasoning behind this bill, we want it to be plain and obvious to the citizens of the nation that we are not advocating for the conversion to Hosian, rather that we are acknowledging the historical and modern ties to the religion as the primary religion of Mordusia.

This type of bill must be followed with a declaration to the citizens of our nation that the state does not believe in "one true religion", but rather wants to acknowledge the vast majority of our peoples whom self-identify as Hosian.

MessageIf our partners in the coalition can support this Bill (with their condition applied) and the EDH are in favour, then the Alliance is happy to proceed.

The Alliance itself would like to reiterate that is has no interest in whatever religious or secular practices our citizens indulge in (so long as no extreme or fanatical sects are included in the definition of religion). As the SDP already seems to appreciate, the proposal is motivated by the desire to reflect on our society rather than to impose upon it.

An additional benefit is that passing this legislation will mean that all three parties have united over something which we believe will be refreshing for our people to see. It would mean this policy - already passing through Parliament in an EDH bill - might become law, whereas the EDH's own bill is unlikely to pass into law because of its accompanying policy proposals - with which the Alliance has some problem.

We are happy for the Prime Minister to make whatever announcement that is felt to be appropriate while this bill passes through Parliament, or after it has become law.

Random fact: Particracy does not allow real-life brand names (eg. Coca Cola, McDonalds, Microsoft). However, in the case of military equipment brand names it is permitted to use simple number-letter combinations (eg. T-90 and F-22) borrowed from real life, and also simple generic names, like those of animals (eg. Leopard and Jaguar).
