Bill: P.d.l 10/4774: Republican restoration

Details

Submitted by[?]: Blocco della Sinistra

Status[?]: defeated

Votes: This bill asks for an amendement to the Constitution. It will require two-thirds of the legislature to vote in favor. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: June 4775

Description[?]:

Members of the Assembly,

As part of our political program, and our own ideology and values, we bring this issue once more back to the front. From the Left Bloc we have never hidden that we defend the restoration of the Republic in our nation, a republic of equals where no one, by the mere fact of being born into a certain family, can consent to rule over others. A republic where it is the citizens who decide who their rulers are, who truly represent "the will of the people". In the Left Bloc we will never feel identified with the royal family, which is not subject to public scrutiny and whose authority is above everything and everyone. An anachronistic and archaic institution that does not represent the plurality and diversity of our nation, and that it never will, no matter how much they try to modernize themselves, because it is something intrinsic to their own institution.

MessageMr Speaker,
An elected partisan head of state can never truly unite the people in times of political anarchy. When a nation's political system starts to become fragile and extremely polarized, then how should a head of state who is part of the polarization try to symbolize Istalian unity? The Emperor and the Imperial Family are necessary to provide some sort of political unity as the highest official in the land. And do not worry the perk with a constitutional monarchy, is that the ruling family have been trained since birth to be non-partisan. The monarchy is necessary. The Empire is necessary. The Emperor is necessary. Thank you.

MessageMr. Cedrone,

There is no such thing as "non-partisanship". Everyone, in one way or another, has their own ideology. Some people are better in hiding it than others, but that is all. The nation does not need a family that believes itself above the law, that is protected by the law, and whose scandals are forgiven easily. And we have seen all those things in recent decades with our own royal family. An elected head of State can be changed, an Emperor can't be changed no matter how many wrong things does against its own country. We will never support that.

MessageDear member of the Left Bloc,

You speak as if we have an absolute monarchy, that's not the case, we have a constitutional monarchy. If you do not want the Emperor and the Imperial family to be protected by law, try changing that law instead of throwing a stable system out of the window. No monarch of the Istalian Empire, as far as my knowledge go, all the way from Michele I to our current Emperor Alessandro III Ghazi, has done any wrong doing against their country or fellow citizens.

And actually an elected head of state can easily manipulate the system to gain more power, there are perfect historical and current examples of this. An elected head of state might not be as easy to remove as you think. And a monarch might actually not be that hard to remove either. I'm afraid republicanism is just a simple excuse for the lust of the prestige and power that comes with being the highest official in the land, nothing else. Thank you.

The OFF support neither a republic nor a monarchy. We favour a Patriarch as HOS. Out of respect for our coalition partners and the lack of alternatives, we vote No.
