Bill: RP: New UBWP State Council Lineup after Leadership Election

Details

Submitted by[?]: Unsubmissive Beluzian Workers Party

Status[?]: passed

Votes: This bill is a resolution. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: December 4778

Description[?]:

With the surprise election of the little known Leader of the Ecosocialist Unsubmissives, Ashanti Marikit Boyka Vaihere Hennessy, and as the youngest ever General Secretary, Beluzian and UBWP politics have entered an unprecedented era. Many question whether Hennessy will be ready to lead Beluzia's largest party and take on the role of President should she be elected, not having completed her high school education, or even entered university yet. Despite this focus, she proposed the new UBWP frontbench today, making many significant changes. We will compare it with the previous one under former General Secretary Blair Vilma Sousa.

Previous:

Head of Government: Dr Julius Furgenster IX (left-wing populist)
Foreign Affairs: Millaray Beitris McDonald (democratic socialist, socialist feminist)
Internal Affairs: Dr Jane Davidson (radical democratic socialist)
Finance: Dr Janus Hartmann VI (radical democratic socialist, market socialist)
Defence:Dr Rebecca Grazia Durnin (radical democratic socialist)
Justice: Dr Ariadne Erika Ó Cuinn (democratic socialist)
Infrastructure and Transport: Dr Tim Ábel Henning III (social democratic)
Health and Social Services: Dr Renata Giacinta O'Callaghan (left-wing populist)
Education and Culture: Professor Caolán Carey Mac Gilleain (social democratic)
Science and Technology: Professor Uilleag Cezar Bonaccorsi (scientific socialist)
Food and Agriculture: Dr Desideria Pomona Grillo (radical agrarian socialist, eco-socialist)
Environment and Tourism: Dr Grania Elda Piccoli (agrarian socialist, eco-socialist)
Trade and Industry: Professor Iokaste Aurora Madigan (ethical socialist, guild socialist, market socialist, syndicalist)

This previous UBWP State Council possessed the most women, similar to that of Sousa's predecessor, Marceli, with 8 women in a Council of 13 positions. Most of the State Council is composed of the more moderate left wing of the UBWP and several left wing populists and democratic socialists to represent the big tent of the left image of the UBWP. In Hennessy's frontbench, the gender composition has increased to 10 women, the other three positions being filled by men. The Sousa establishment figures have been removed from front bench, with the exception of Millaray Beitris McDonald, and have been replaced with newer, younger and fresher faces, part of the 'radical, reformative, revolutionary' vision that Hennessy had said the UBWP needed to return to. Many of these names are unknown to the public, and due to its youthful composition, many have questioned whether individuals who have not received a full education are capable of managing and manoeuvring round the complexities of government bureaucracy.

Here is the new State Council:

Head of Government: Ms Velvela Uduakobong Kseniya Lorie Franklin (centrist Metzist, ethical socialist, socialist feminist, eco-socialist, state socialist)
Foreign Affairs: Ms Maura Skyla Ursula Barbara Van Can (democratic socialist, ethical socialist, scientific socialist, socialist feminist, eco-socialist, left wing nationalist, market socialist)
Internal Affairs: Ms Martina Fadumo Carme Roxana Fournier (democratic socialist, socialist feminist, eco-socialist)
Finance: Ms Nayeli Carina Kristina Hannele Smalls (left wing populist, market socialist, liberal socialist, state socialist)
Defence: Ms Sibonakaliso Clara Josefina Liorit Kató (democratic socialist, left wing nationalist)
Justice: Ms Katharina Dalit Chevonne Xeni Sokol (democratic socialist, socialist feminist)
Infrastructure and Transport: Mr Julius Hisham Martîn Jerry Ericson (left wing populist, state socialist, market socialist)
Health and Social Services: Ms Bernice Fulvia Chlotichilda Stamatia Tiraboschi (democratic socialist, municipal socialist, state socialist, ethical socialist, scientific socialist)
Education and Culture: Ms Guðrún Fatma Ogechi Phoibe Grigoryan (left wing populist, ethical socialist)
Science and Technology: Mr Markku Sakari Rajesh Glyndwr Paxton (left wing populist, ethical socialist, scientific socialist)
Food and Agriculture: Ms Béatrice Isabeau Eseoghene Khadijah Thomassen (democratic socialist, eco-socialist, agrarian socialist, scientific socialist)
Environment and Tourism: Mr Mahalah Nurullah Aric Tezcatlipoca Narang (left wing populist, eco-socialist, agrarian socialist, market socialist)
Trade and Industry: Professor Millaray Beitris McDonald (democratic socialist, syndicalist, guild socialist)

The new Council has changed in terms of gender, and significantly in terms of ideology, with the inclusion of more ideological, idealistic individuals. Some critics have said appointments like this indicate a shift towards a more ideological form of politics rather than a more practical, pragmatic, realist form, however Hennessy has pushed back against claims like this. She said:

'The new frontbench might be loud, aggressive in terms of tone, but this should not be interpreted as anger, militancy, revolutionary or radical. It merely shows the passion and the aggression my frontbench utilises in their fight against injustice and for class solidarity. If a politician is not passionate or aggressive in their pursuit for what they believe is right, then how can they connect with the people, how can they show the public that they are authentic and speak from the heart rather than reading off a script? If a politician is to be charismatic, to be honest, to have integrity, to be one who puts the interests of the nation over that of the party, how best to portray that if we do not give the public the image of a politician who shows they understand the sufferings of the less privileged, who speaks the words of the people and not the words of the special interests, who helps others before helping themselves, who is never greedy and believes in the spirit of collectivism and striving for the betterment of the common people, who believes in a shared purpose, shared values and the common good rather than individualistic goals, individualistic values and individualistic good. The politician's obligation is to the entirety of society, not just what one certain individual wants. The form of politics I bring is inclusive, which brings in everyone, no matter their race, class, ethnicity, political ideology to achieve one single goal: the betterment of the common people through the pursuit of the common good. Yes, my frontbench only has democratic socialists, left wing populists, state socialists, socialists that come from the further left of the spectrum, but if they are selfless, approachable, caring, compassionate, intelligent individuals, then what is preventing them from representing the people of Beluzia? As long as they have principles, as long as they believe in their duty of serving the people to improve society, then they should have every right to be on the frontbench without being questioned as to whether they are qualified just because they do not fit the stereotypical, the status quo version of what a politician is supposed to be. Judge politicians by their principle, their character, their morals, their values, their ethics rather than their appearance. If we judge by appearance, but not by character, what happens if we elect someone who does not care about the working class, who demonises immigrants, who demonises religions like Ahmadism, who does not believe women should be given the right to choose whether to abort or not and so on and so forth, but which we see no problem with because they are well educated, come from a decent family so on and so forth? Is this really the kind of political class we want, 'politicians' who are not politicians, but merely opportunists, performers and demagogues? Politics like this does not govern, nor does it make decisions, nor does it form power relations. Rather than governing, they perform to appease their own supporters. Rather than making firm decisions, they speak in circles, in ambiguous language. That gives the impression of an unstable, weak leader. And rather than forming relations the influence the behaviours of others, they break relations by polarising society with their divisive, hateful and cruel rhetoric. These are not politicians, these are fraudsters.'

People continued to raise their concern over the appointment of unknowns, those with little political experience, and those who have not received a full education yet, and Hennessy once again reassured journalists, political commentators and political historians, saying:

'The vision offered by my leadership and by my frontbench should matter more than whether I have completed my education yet. Education is obviously important, however we have had leaders and politicians who continued their education while serving the State. Our party also has trade unionists who never went to university, but have still been able to hold high up positions in the party. My predecessor, who by the way, I would like to thank for ushering in 'UBWP's Golden Age' and giving a platform for a more radical form of left wing politics, did her masters and her doctorate degree while leading the UBWP and making speeches as a parliamentarian. If the UBWP membership voted for me, then it is clear that they have faith in the vision I presented to them. As were my predecessors, they voted based on the vision, their qualifications, not based on their educational status, their race, their class, their ethnicity, their appearance. As I said earlier, politics is about governing, making decisions that benefit the people, creating power relations, not about how someone looks and if they look decent, then they are suitable to be leading a political party and the country. Politics is about creating impressions on people, not judging people based on their appearance.'
