Kalistan Cultural Protocol
In accordance with section 6 of the Game Rules (http://forum.particracy.net/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=6363#p90598), Kalistan is a "culturally protected" nation. Below is the cultural protocol which all players in the nation must abide. Throughout the document, the real-life equivalent is shown in brackets next to the in-game name.

--OVERVIEW--

Kalistan is a nation of immigrants. The original stock of the Kalistani people were known as "Kalii" and seem to have arrived in Kalistan from what is now Likatonia. Kalistan then suffered significant cultural over run, first by Lodamese, and then Indralan conquerors, who added their own cultural influences to the stock. The nation was then conquered and colonized by Ikradonians. After the collapse of the Ikradonian Empire, Kalistan unified under the crown in Ananto and became the home of refugees, settlers and n'er-do-wells from across Terra, each group adding its own influence to the Kalistani stock. Today, Kalistan is a unique ethnicity, with flavors from all over the world, added by each successive wave of arrivals from foreign nations.

--ETHNICITY--

Kalistan's approach to ethnicity can be compared to that of the United States in real life in that the concept on ethnicity is not often used. Most citizens consider themselves "Kalistani" and claim a variety of cultural backgrounds. For this reason, there are no restrictions on the names that are used for characters, provided that they are conform the Game Rules regarding real-life names.

The main influences on Kalistani culture include

» Luthori (British/English)- 29%
» Pensio (Spanish)- 21%
» Enskalan (Basque)- 17%
» Istalian (Italian)- 10%
» Canrillaise (French)- 8%
» Narik (Dutch) 4%
» Indralan (Chinese)-3%
» Dundorfian (German)- 2%
» Asli (West African)- 1%
» Other- 5%

--RELIGION--

» Society of Brethren (Quakerism)- 74%
» No religion- 10%
» Aurorian Patriarchal Church (Catholic)- 4%
» Septentrine (Ultrajectine Old Catholics)- 3%
» Yeudi (Judaism)- 3%
» Ahmadism (Islam)- 2%
» Daenism (Buddhism)- 1%
» Other- 3%

--LANGUAGE—
The most common language spoken in Kalistan is North Seleyan Luthori (North American English). The primary dialect of NSL spoken in Kalistan is formally known as "Vrassan", but it is commonly referred to as "Kalistani Luthori" (Californian English). It is completely mutually intelligible with Standard Luthori, though there is significant idiomatic and pronunciation differences. Formal spelling conventions are also noticeably different. Most citizens speak an additional language such as Egelian (Spanish) or Enskaran (Basque). Egelian is the most common second language in Kalistan, and most people speak both Vrassan and Egelian competently.

Egelian (Spanish) holds a special status particularly among the young and students who frequently appropriate slang terms into Vrassan. This incorporation is the source of much of the idiomatic diversity in Vrassan. Other popular languages spoke regionally in Kalistan are Canrillaise (French), especially in Ananto, Indralan (Chinese) in Suldanor, and Delic (Slavic) spoken in Vrassa.

Random fact: When your party holds the foreign affairs department, you can create new treaties. However, before writing anything new, it is a good idea to search for existing treaties which already accomplish what you desire.
