Message | I think having local governments decide is better because different areas can have very different income levels and needs for housing. That would probably be efficient too. Either that or all housing is private. If people want to give to the poor for housing, they can. |

Message | The Growth and Efficiency Party agrees with the FCP that this should be handled on a regional level. Unfortunately it seems that is not an option as a proposal. In addition, we would like to point out that rent subsidies can be adjusted for different costs of living easily. |

Message | The DLP is deeply opposed. Properly administered council housing that conforms to national and international standards is a boon to a great many citizens. To force those one poor incomes to take out mortgages, which they can already ill afford, is idiocy. This bill will do nothing but harm low income families, and we cannot support it. |

Message | We are completely opposed. Once again the FCP patronises our low-income families, and neglects its responsiblities as government ensure "equality" and "opportunity" for all Jelbanians. As for the GPP's comments, YES our members have BEEN inside plenty of public housing projects and their wild, over-arching assertions that they are "dens of crime" is insulting and blatantly inaccurate. Once again, we labour the point that our people are not a set of statistics and that government is not a sideshow to economics. |

Message | "To force those one poor incomes to take out mortgages, which they can already ill afford, is idiocy." What in the world is the DLP talking about? Taking out mortgages? A mortgages are LOAN PAYMENTS made because the OWNER bought the house with BORROWED MONEY. Someone who lives in a public housing does NOT pay mortgages nor do people who PAY RENT. The whole point of the bill is that by providing rent subsidies to the less fortunate, it allows them to move where they want AT NO ADDITIONAL COST TO THEM. |

Message | We cannot support this. The Citizens Party is in favor of mixed public housing where people of all income levels live among one another. Unfortunately, this is not a policy option, so the best choice is the current policy of providing public housing to low-income families. |

Message | This bill has only been in debate for 5 months and aside from the breaking of that agreement we'd query whether the subject has actually been exhausted yet. |
Date | 21:18:02, May 08, 2006 CET | From | Growth and Prosperity Party | To | Debating the Housing Devolution Act 2224 |
Message | In the spirit of compromise and progress, the GPP proposes that housing policy be devolved to the local level. This would allow regions to pursue the CP's mixed public housing if desired while also leaving room for competition in low-income housing. A rent-subsidized alternative for low-income people would increase choice and allow both private and public housing to co-exist. |
