MessageMr. Speaker,

Regarding the recent petition submitted to the Diet: this government has no plans to establish fishing restrictions harmful to fishermen and their families, or bow to any sort of left-green hysteria.

MessageMr Speaker,

Thank you for granting me the ability to give testimony about this petition. What the right honourable gentleman calls "left-green" hysteria is exactly the sort of defensive recoil you would expect from someone denying the urgent need for change. For too long, politics in this nation has not put the needs of the citizenry and of the environment ahead of that of large corporations.

Article one, as proposed, is the immediate action needed to avoid a catastrophic depletion of fish stocks. Currently, exhausting fishing practices are leading to one destination only - the total collapse of the fishing industry. Why can't we fish in a responsible manner? In a way that ensures that we can get the most from nature whilst causing the least amount of harm? What is more harmful to fisherman and their families: learning to catch fish in a sustainable and controlled manner, or having no more fish left to catch?

Article two and four, as proposed, would bring some order to the otherwise "wild-west" that is the agricultural industry. Some might claim that these articles harm farmers, but that couldn't be further from the truth. If enacted, these proposals would allow farmers and the general citizenry to take back control of their food from giant multinationals. Instead of eating a motley of chemicals, engineered organisms and pesticides, we should be able to eat food as nature intended it to be.

Article three, as proposed, would bring an end to the inhumane treatment of animals either for reasons of religion or efficiency. What kind of a specie are we if we cause unnecessary suffering to the species that are providing for us?

Thank you for my time.

MessageMr. Speaker,

Every nation around us has established fishing quotas. We only repealed harmful fishing quotas a few years ago. We are hardly exhausting the fish supply; time and time again we have been told about 'overfishing', yet even when we refuse to bow to the left's policies it has never happened. We already fish in a responsible manner; in a manner that recognises the ever-continuous abundance of our supply and the similarly ever-continuous desire of our neighbours to shoot themselves in the foot against all logic and reason. To paraphrase many a mother to their child, we will not jump off a cliff just because everyone else has done it.

Time and time again we have been told of the need for changing our ways. Sea levels might not have risen yet, but thousands of people die in countries like Dorvik, Hutori, and Kazulia every year because for thousands of years the left told us about 'global warming', and we ended up with global cooling because of it. You'll have to forgive me if I'm not going to trust them on this one.

MessageNews from outside the debate: Fennessy was overheard on the night train referring to Prime Minister Brewer's comments in the debate today as "demonstrating the fact that he is a relic of a bygone age of waste and excessiveness".

MessageCedric Poots, Private Political Secretary to the Duke of Middenridding:

As a keen farmer himself, His Grace understands the countryside better than most people in the Diet, and appreciates that banning all GM techniques and fungicides would bring no benefit, and indeed would devastate our nation's agricultural sector. The correct approach is to follow the science and regulate accordingly. Imposing draconian blanket bans is not the way to go.

The Delegation would be sympathetic to introducing fishing quotas, so long as this is implemented in a reasonable way.

MessageMr Speaker,

This party was founded by farmers and for farmers, overtime adopting other sectors of agriculture in representation. This would destroy our hard working farmers and fishers who provide you the food on your plate, we must protect our farmers and fishers.
