Bill: National Flag Bill
Details
Submitted by[?]: Green Manalishi Party
Status[?]: passed
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: May 2225
Description[?]:
We wish that more freedom be given concerning the use of our national flag. For commercial reasons - The flag can be used as a symbol of Jelbanian quality to promote our industries in the global market. For civil liberty reasons - "Dissent is the highest form of patriotism". Once again it comes down to a question of our consistency on freedom of speech. The GMP believes it should be a fundamental right for every Jelbania citizen. More than 76% of Terra nations currently support this legislation. We propose one of two alternatives for open discussion: a) no restrictions on its usage b) no commercial usage. |
Proposals
Article 1

Old value:: The national flag may not be desecrated or dishonoured.
Current: The national flag may not be desecrated or dishonoured.
Proposed: There are no regulations regarding the desecration or use of the national flag.

Message | It really doesn't bother us in other nations of Terra allow their citizens to burn or defecate on their flags, but we do not believe Jelbania nor her flag deserves even the possibility of this indignity. We also find it ironic that as the party closest to the left wing, we are arguing in support of keeping what is essentially a patriotic measure. |

Message | (ooc: not one for too much labelling but think the GMP is actually probably the furthest left, which may or may not be why we were th ones to propose the bill) |

Message | As we mentioned above DLP. "Dissent is the highest form of patriotism" - It was a wise man that said that because any action for your country is better than apathy as far as we're concerned |

Message | ooc: It depends. The DLP supports child benefits, business subsidies, free pharmaceuticals. The GMP does not. This suggests to me that my party is further to the left than yours. ic: With all due respect to our esteemed parliamentary colleagues in the GMP, that is rubbish. Patriotism is the highest form of patriotism. The desecration of the symbols of the Free Republic is not right. |

Message | ooc: Not that the last bit ultimately matters but as for the first things - we support child benefit and free pharmaceuticals also, but we want to see those benfits given out fairly in the interests of furthening the overall equality cause. It also makes economic sense. ic: We might have to agree to differ, but as someone else once said (ooc: roughly at least) "apathy is the scourge of the democratic process" |
