MessageMr/Ms. Speaker, Members of the National Congress,

Whilst the Independent Regionalist Bloc has no intentions of holding significant cabinet positions at the present, many of our secular members feel taken aback at the possibility of religious intrusion into our national government, as such vote against this current motion, in a move of protest. Our republic prides itself on a strong secular tradition and the separation of church from state; If we are to compromise in these matters in any form, then we risk our nation becoming something akin to that of Davostan centuries ago.

It may not come immediately, but handing over influence to organized religion brings with it a host of underlying issues and only serves to weaken our democracy. However on the contrary, it is equally important to protect the rights of citizens and individuals to practice their faiths unhindered; We feel that the current laws being reformed in the compromise bill put before the floor are fine as they currently are - striking a fair balance between a strong secularist government, and leaving religions to manage their own affairs.
