It is abhorrant that Dorvik remains without a minimum wage. We insist that the Senate creates such legislation to protect the workers of Dorvik.

MessageOkay this will be incredibly counterproductive since it will increase unemployment. Realize that we already HAVE a minimum wage in the form of welfare. No one will work for less than welfare pays when they could stay on welfare and be richer UNLESS they had a chance of advancing in the ranks (i.e. temporarily working for a lower wage and then working up to a higher wage, as if often the case in entry-level jobs).

Welfare is far better for protecting workers than the minimum wage is because it doesn't destroy entry-level jobs, so people can still work at those jobs and gain the skills they need to land a higher-wage job, but only if they were advancing up (otherwise they would just quit and go back to welfare). Having a direct minimum wage makes it impossible for businesses to hire low-skilled workers (why would you hire someone at a high wage if they aren't producing enough value to make up your costs?) and thus those workers will never gain the experience they need.

MessageAgain the snobbish Maroon Party demonstrates their distaste for the working man, assuming they are lazy and money-obsessed.

A 1998 EPI study failed to find any systematic, significant job loss associated with the 1996-97 minimum wage increase. In fact, following the most recent increase in the minimum wage in 1996-97, the low-wage labor market performed better than it had in decades (e.g., lower unemployment rates, increased average hourly wages, increased family income, decreased poverty rates). Studies of the 1990-91 federal minimum wage increase, as well as to studies by David Card and Alan Krueger of several state minimum wage increases, also found no measurable negative impact on employment. Finally, a recent Fiscal Policy Institute (FPI) study of state minimum wages found no evidence of negative employment effects on small businesses.

Random fact: There are two countries based on Egypt in the game. Cobura is based on modern Egypt with a retro twist, while Hawu Mumenhes is based on Ancient Egypt with a modernist twist.

Random quote: First and second class seats on public transport shall be BANNED! We are all FIRST CLASS people, regardless of whether we are rich or poor and can afford or not afford to pay for a more expensive seat. From now on, all seats on trains, buses, trams, planes and so on shall be the SAME. We will all travel in the SAME way, TOGETHER. ~ Friedrich Pfeiffer General Secretary of the Dorvish Communist Party
