Bill: Unethical Marriage Recognition Prevention Act

Details

Submitted by[?]: Likatonian Freedom Party

Status[?]: defeated

Votes: This bill is a resolution. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: May 5105

Description[?]:

Recognizing foreign marriages that don’t comply with the domestic policy is troublesome. There are three primary issues:

1. Forced Marriage - Some countries do not have laws preventing foreign marriages.

2. Domestic Law Circumvention - Some will get married in another country to circumvent the domestic laws.

3. Underage Marriage - Some countries allow marriage to minors, which often ends in abuse and other issues.

There is no reason to allow marriages that do not comply with our common-sense laws.

MessageMarriages that have happened in foreign countries should be recognized. Countries that have marriages according to their marriage laws should be respected. If a person from a foreign nation moves to Likatonia, and gets married here, they will have to abide by the Likatonian marriage laws.
