Message | This legislation could be easily hijacked. Friends, family, etc. of a writer could enter a library and withdraw their book without charge. The government would then be obliged to provide the writer and publisher a fee. If this happened enough, they could get extremely rich off this and at the expense of the government. |

Message | Do you know the fines for not returning a book? More than the cost of the book, trust me. Its not worth it. |

Message | - Everybody should have to be able to affort to read. It is a right in a civilised society and almost as important as food and a roof over you're head. - Reading helps educate our people, it stimulate the mind, it's good for the language skills and fantasy. And it broadens the intellectual horizon. |

Message | Backed. MT & SH - Won't the writers just get a one off fee per book of theirs that is in use, not every time it is lent out? |

Message | MT is proposing that they steal the book. |

Message | Apologies. I assumed that the writers/publishers would receive a fee each time their book was withdrawn. That was why my complaints were aired. May the Militant Tendency assure all parties that we are fundamentally in favour of the widespread distribution of reading material, and the promotion of literacy in Hutori. |

Message | Um, do they not get a fee when the library buys the book for it's shelves? I think the extra clause is unnecessary. If this is passed, perhaps a national library with every book in print would be in order? |
Date | 21:31:12, June 21, 2005 CET | From | stopped | To | Debating the Subsidized Library's |
Message | They get a small fee every time the book is lend out. but if the book is lend out thousands of time's, thats a good income. (because it's about big numbers, a few relatives wont make much of a difference.) |
Date | 23:51:38, June 21, 2005 CET | From | Ruthlessly Random Party | To | Debating the Subsidized Library's |
Message | Then I withdraw my vote. The idea of a library is for it to be free, the expense of books paid for by fines. A copywrite holder has the rights to the book when purchased not when it is held in a library. |

Message | If that is the case then I also withdraw my vote. |

Message | We will back it for now, however, I have proposed an amendment. If ppl may comment so we may pass it asap? |
