Bill: Bill NP-75: Prayer in School Act

Details

Submitted by[?]: National Progress Party

Status[?]: passed

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: March 5204

Description[?]:

(This bill was proposed by the Minister of Education and Culture Erin Fisher)
It doesn't make sense to have prayer in schools that aren't specifically religious. It's very rare to have a non-religious school that is completely homogeneous when it comes to religion. Most of the time, you have children from different religion sharing the same classroom. The current law allows for the awkward situation where you have imposed prayers of one religion in class while having while having children from different religion in that same class.

In overall, there is already something absurd with giving to secular school (as in non-religious) the right to have prayer in class. There is no reason to keep teacher-led prayer in class legal in non-religious schools.
