Bill: Immigration Act
Details
Submitted by[?]: Frisinnade folkpartiet (FFP)
Status[?]: passed
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: January 5210
Description[?]:
Unrestricted immigration can be the cause of many problems, including crime, overcrowding of already disadvantaged areas, housing shortages, and unemployment amongst those with limited employment qualifications. We therefore present this bill for parliament's consideration, to make sure that we bring the number of arrivals under control, while avoiding a scenario where we import the 'misery of the world'.. |

Message | We are not opposed to regulation of immigration, but we belive that an immigration policy worthy for our nation must be built on solidarity and respect for the right to asylum for those fleeing war, persecution and climate change. The problems blamed on immigration by the FFP are not caused by immigration, they are caused by economic injustices inherent in the almost unrestricted capitalism supported by them. Succesfull integration of a much larger amount of refugees than the FFP would want us to take in is possible and something to strive for. This would however require that we actually prioritize the economic security of the working class and poor and turn away from the neoliberal path of the government. |

Message | On the contrary, a market economy, together with policies that ensure equality of opportunity, promotes economic efficiency and rewards hard work and ingenuity over laziness and backwardness. Economic security for workers will never be realized unless we allow competition to regulate business and personal effort to be rewarded. The opposition will note that we do not propose to ban immigration, but merely to regulate it; at present, we have an open borders-policy, which risks swamping the labour and housing markets, ironically hurting the very low-income natives that the socialists claim to care about. Equally, our refugee policy would still allow for the truly unfortunate to seek asylum here, and indeed be given State support, but not in endless numbers; other nations also have to pull their weight. |
