MessageMr Speaker,

It is a long established point of law that convicted felons forfeit many of their civil rights. Voting seems a fair right to take off such individuals. While we could support a compromise that see's released felons restored to their full civil rights, the notion that they're entitled to such rights whilst incarcerated is a step too far.

MessageMr. Speaker,

Considering the offered compromise as a step in the right direction in terms of this policy, we will change the proposed amendment to one of full voting rights restored upon release and bring this proposal to a vote.
