--OVERVIEW--

From as early as the 7th century BCE, the Aldegarian (Persian) people have dominated the region of modern Aldegar. They continue to form the majority of the mainland population today with the Panmuan (Mongol) people forming a notable minority in the country's northern regions. The island of Somasi is instead populated by the Nelayan (Javanese) and Rajavanshi (Parsi) peoples. Throughout ancient and modern Aldegarian history, Yazdism (Zoroastrianism) has played a major role in society, culture and politics, it is often considered the Aldegarian "national religion" although Daenism (Buddhism), Zamanism (Manichaeism), and Hosianism (Christianity) have been important at various points too.

--ETHNICITY--

The largest ethnic group in Aldegar is the Aldegarian (Persian) people. They form the majority of the population on the mainland and mostly practice Yazdism (Zoroastrianism) and Zamanism (Manichaeism).

There is a sizeable minority of Panmuan, also knonwn as Mu-Tze (Mongol) people, who originally settled in the region during the period of the Mu-Tze Khanate and are concentrated in the north. Most Panmuans adhere to Daenism (Buddhism) and Zamanism (Manichaeism).

The island of Somasi is populated by two ethnic groups. The Nelayan (Javanese) people are closely related to the Tukarese (Philippine) people in the north and practice Daenism (Buddhism). The Rajavanshi (Parsi) people have a culture closely related to that of the Aldegarians (Persians) and are primarily Yazdean (Zoroastrian).

» Aldegarian (Persian) - 65%
» Nelayan (Javanese) - 11%
» Rajavanshi (Parsi) - 9%
» Panmuan (Mongol) - 8%
» Yingdalan (Han Chinese) - 2%
» Other- 5%

--RELIGION--

For millennia, Yazdism (Zoroastrianism) has been the dominant religion in Aldegar and has typically played an important role in politics and wider society as well as influencing much of the nation's culture. Zamanism (Manichaeism), Daenism (Buddhism) and Hosianism (Christianity) have significant minority communities although all three have experienced repression and persecution in the past. Over the centuries, numerous syncretic groups have emerged and this means many people identify with a religious identity while incorporating aspects of other traditions.

» Yazdism (Zoroastrianism) - 56%
» Zamanism (Manichaeism) - 12%
» Daenism (Buddhism) - 10%
⠀⠀-- Mazdâyanâ (Mahayana) - 8%
⠀⠀-- Upayanâ (Theravada) - 2%
» Hosianism (Christianity) - 8%
⠀⠀-- Aldegarian Apostolic Church (Nestorian Church / Church of the East) - 8%
» None - 2%
» Other - 4%

--LANGUAGE--

The dominant national language is the Aldegarian (Persian) language. Due to this long history, variation between traditional and contemporary language is significant. The traditional form of the language is known as Classical Aldegarian (Farsi) and is officially written in the Aldegarian (Avestan) script.

Recent centuries have seen efforts to standardise contemporary, spoken forms of the Aldegarian language. The most popular of these is known as Modern Aldegarian (Tajik), which was recently elevated to the status of sole official language. Aside from Aldegarian there are several notable minority languages such as Rajavanshi (Gujarati), Nelayan (Javanese) and Panmuan (Mongolian).

--GUIDELINES--

» The names of political parties should be in Tajik
» The vast majority of characters/'candidates'/politicians should have Zoroastrian and/or Tajik names
» A small number of Javanese and Mongolian names are permitted, on their own or mixed with Zoroastrian forenames or surnames
