Bill: Budget proposal of April 5366

Details

Submitted by[?]: Għażla tal-Poplu

Status[?]: passed

Votes: This bill proposes to change the allocation of funds in the budget. It requires more than half of the legislature to vote yes. This bill will pass as soon as the required yes votes are in, or will be defeated if unsufficient votes are reached on the deadline.

Voting deadline: December 5366

Description[?]:

This Government is committed to maximizing the resources available to crucial initiatives - such as rooting out the damages of corruption and crime at home and enhancing Cildania's reputation abroad through an independent, forward-looking foreign policy.

As the Finance Minister, I have observed a significant surplus of about 110 billion Cildanian cildars (CDC). This surplus, built up over the decades, shows that we can invest a bit more in what matters most to our citizens: internal stability and a tough-on-crime approach.

We are not spending wastefully, however. When ministries are overfunded, such as the case for Trade and Industry and Food and Agriculture, we have made small and targeted cuts.

Finally, a temporary 500 million Cildar investment is being made to facilitate the coronation proceedings and other transitions in the Grand Princely household.

We recognize that the last budget was enacted 22 years ago, in 5344, and involved net cuts. This budget will restore us to approximately the same level of spending as in previous years, which is now sustainable thanks to economic growth and increased revenue. And I will bring forward further legislation to bring our taxes down while maintaining a surplus.

MessageMembers of the Council,

The AC welcomes these changes to the national budget; with these new funds fresh life can be given into two long-depreciated ministries within our cabinet, and ultimately the ones who were the most important: the interior and justice ministries. With these newly set-aside funds, we can finally bring the arduous task of tackling our nation's endemic corruption to fore. There remains a great deal of work before us, but we believe that with the right persistence, we can and will excise a gnawing issue that has done immeasurable damage to our nation.

We thank graciously the efforts of the finance minister in heeding our calls, and wish all the best in the coming days.
