MessageSo convicts should come out with fewer opportunities to earn an honest living than when they went in? That'll do wonders for recidivism rates.

MessageWe do not say that those guilty of crimes should not receive support after leaving prison. We feel instead that while in prison they should not be pampered by providing educational programs and paid jobs and other luxuries. The time in jail should be unpleasant to give them a chance to atone for their crimes.
Once they are released we should do our best to place them in solid jobs and provide training as we do with all our citizens.

MessageSince when is education and a job luxurious? It sounds like basic human rights to us, though we'd hardly be surprised if the PP wasn't interested in respecting those rights either.

The fact is that education helps prevent repeat offense by providing a job skill for convicts to trade on. Most people don't want to be criminals, and end up in a life of crime out of economic necessity. By giving convicts the chance to earn an honest living we drastically reduce the chance of them repeating criminal behavior. If the PP expects us to help place former prisoners in jobs after their release, why wait for their release to begin the job training? That's just poor reasoning.

Messagejust like the levp doesn't respect the rights of the creator by forbidding copyright and patent law. hmmmm.

in any case, sorry to say we're not for this bill.

ooc: Did you know, the UK is the only country in the world where the chief objective of their criminal justice system is to present repeat offenses? its a really big undertaking, hopefully it will work.

MessageThe choice to become a criminal is still a choice they made. We support training and educational opportunities but we feel that jail should be used as a punishment not a rehap center. Our jails have lost the ability to be a deterrent to crime, since people have learned how to work the system to get cushy jobs or a relaxing time in class studying subjects on the taxpayers Pliny with no interest in the material being taught. Our system is being manipulated and those sent to prison are laughing at the sentence.
