Bill: International Waters for Life Initiative
Details
Submitted by[?]: National Centrist Party
Status[?]: passed
Votes: This bill is a resolution. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: January 2073
Description[?]:
Text of bill taken from: http://www.takeforum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=950&mforum=particracy The oceans of our planet are a common treasury for all, not just a resource to be exploited. We are stewards of these global commons, not owners. The Law of the Sea allows national governments to prevent over-fishing within their coastal waters, but international waters remain a free-for-all. Marine life knows nothing of borders, and must be protected in international waters as well. Whaling in international waters is strictly prohibited. Fishing nets able to trap dolphins shall not be permitted in international waters. A non-partisan international commission of marine biologists shall be established to monitor fish stocks. Where fish stocks are being depleted at an unsustainable rate, quotas shall be established to prevent over-fishing. Likatonia will implement the same measures within it's own waters as well. |

Message | This caught my eye. It seems like a reasonable proposal that would be environmentally friendly without having too deadly a cost. |

Message | yes. can you put an extension on the end to include our own waters too, as suggested? |
Date | 17:21:22, June 25, 2005 CET | From | National Centrist Party | To | Debating the International Waters for Life Initiative |
Message | I'd support such myself, but whether it gets included depends on whether you can drum up enough support among the other parties. |
Date | 21:19:35, June 25, 2005 CET | From | Liberal Party for Equality | To | Debating the International Waters for Life Initiative |
Message | Who else would be in favour of these terms in our own waters, as defined by the sea law act? |
Date | 23:21:24, June 25, 2005 CET | From | Right Wing Liberals Party | To | Debating the International Waters for Life Initiative |
Message | 2 things are we to assume Dolphins and whales are at a critical level? What about Deep Sea Trawling? I find that deplorable it rapes the seabed of ancient coral. We must stop it. If you find funding for a study of Whale and Dolphin populations ill vote yes as well as the DST issue. |

Message | I see youve got fish stolks studies but Dolphins although they may be fish must be taken into account. |

Message | Dolphins aren't fish. They're mammals. Oh well. I'll go ahead and add in the amendment and if anyone doesn't like it, they can say so. |

Message | Some of these proposal require international assent such as: 'A non-partisan international commission of marine biologists shall be established to monitor fish stocks. Where fish stocks are being depleted at an unsustainable rate, quotas shall be established to prevent over-fishing.' We support it as something we aspire to and would implement in our own waters, but without international support, that body would be meaningless. We completely support all the other porposals herein. |

Message | By may i meant 'may' as in i wasnt sure and i was of the belief that they are not. Thinks for confirming my belief that Dolphins are not fish. Which backs up my point. |

Message | People's Party: This proposal is indeed an international one. There are at least six other nations debating upon the same thing, I believe. Anyways, we'll take this to vote. |
Date | 18:16:29, June 26, 2005 CET | From | Edelweiss Party | To | Debating the International Waters for Life Initiative |
Message | This proposal is acceptable weither implemented efficiently, but only to be executed in own waters for now. If other nations execute the same proposal, this national bill automaticly becomes an international affair. SPF takes this vote |
