Bill: Income tax proposal of December 2262

Details

Submitted by[?]: Country Labor Party

Status[?]: passed

Votes: This bill proposes to change income taxes. It requires more than half of the legislature to vote yes. This bill will pass as soon as the required yes votes are in, or will be defeated if unsufficient votes are reached on the deadline.

Voting deadline: September 2263

Description[?]:

The Country Labor Party propose to adjust the government's income tax policy to better address the economic situation of the Republic of Mordusia.

This flat tax proposal greatly increases the number of low income people exempted by raising the minimum taxable income, while cutting the tax rate for the upper brackets, freeing more of their money to be reinvested in the economy, and is revenue neutral.

MessageWell first, it's not revenue neutral. This actually increases revenue. Let's be honest. Secondy, revenue saved from individual taxes for the highest earners is not invested into the economy in a way that is generally beneficial to the nation. It is usually invested in luxury items, such as cars and multiple houses. Sure, the creation of these thing puts people to work, but these items are constructed on such a limited basis that this effect is minimalized. What is more likely to help the economy is if tax burdens on the lower incomes are reduced, thus allowing those populations to invest in more modest cars and homes, which are mass produced and have a higher secondary effect of employing more people, thus completing the circle. That said, we are basically in favor of a flat tax, but it should benefit the middle class above all and the realities of it should be made clear.

MessageYes there is a slight increase -- less than 1%. It's as close as I could get it, so let's not split hairs.

MessageThat said, we think we need to determine how much the Mordusian middle class makes, so that we are not putting on an undue tax burden on the lower class. We do not know if there is a good way of doing that.

MessageConsidering the tools we are given to work with here, saying that 6 tenths of 1% is not exactly equal is splitting hairs.
