Bill: All the rights only for adults

Details

Submitted by[?]: Patriotic Libertarian Party

Status[?]: defeated

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: August 2073

Description[?]:

A 16-year old is in no way adult. A 16-yeard old cannot make responsible decisions. Nobody younger than 18 should be considered as adult.

Exception - Lex retro non agit, so I don't intend to take away the rights of the 16-17 year olds that already acquired the adult rights.

MessageTo be honest every person has their own age when they 'become adult'. I certainly was no different on my 18th birthday than the day before, or my 16th either. And indeed all of a lifetime is spent crossing personal thresholds far more significant.

But the mechanical necessity of classifying adults from children, 16 is as good as 18. Though it would be better if we made this the same age for the end of compulsory education.

Messagedude, according to our law, 16year olds can possess guns, drink and smoke.
Do you feel ok with that? Id don't even think that everyone is adult at 18!

MessageThere are arguments for increasing the age. But then it becomes a little ridiculous if people can be arrested for sex at 20 or drinking at 19!

Age is a poor qualifier, but it's all we have available to vote on, and is what all countries I know of use for the basics like marriage, alcohol and smoking.

MessageI know that at 18 I was much more responsible than at 16, but still at 21 I'm much more smarter :)

Don't you agree that at 18 much more people are in fact adult that at 16?

MessageYouve still expressed no real logical reason to change the age . words like "mature" or "adult" are vague beyond belief , what do they really mean? There is no right or wrong answer to most of the questions we give responsibility over by age (how to vote , whether or not to drink smoke etc) so we cannot measure these qualities by a simple ratio of success and failure, intuitively we measure them by the degree to which we approve of the choices made but is this really a valid method to determine something so important which practically defines libery within our country. I use the standard of intellectual, ideological and sustainable independance from the parent as it avoids bias, works in practice and coincides more accurately with the desires of those it restricts and the real social outlook already held by most citizens.

At the end of the day , yes this age is basically arbitrary , but I contend that given the choice 16 is better than 15 17 or 18

MessageWhen I was in the US I was really impressed with how this rule is respected :) Something like the 25th asked guy agreed to buy me beer.
Nothing like that in Poland, I even recently did a study on this.
