Bill: Choose Life Act
Details
Submitted by[?]: Country Labor Party
Status[?]: passed
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: October 2279
Description[?]:
The government should do what it can to foster a culture where life is supported and cherished, from conception to natural end. 1) Abortion kills an unborn child. We must weigh that cost against the likely cost of the mother's life. 2) In an extreme situation, it would be better that a person be put in a drug-induced coma than to be put down like a stray dog. We also have concerns about the diminished decision-making capacity of a person in such a life-threatening situation. 3) We have grave misgivings about cloning and cloning research, especially when such research involves the creation and intentional destruction of human life in the form of a embryo. |

Message | We disagree that philosophy is not a strong argument for or against a proposal, but perhaps you believe so because you want a better explication of our reasoning. We are historically opposed to all three measures, and we will opposition to the restriction of a woman's right to have safe and legal abortions, rather secret and unsafe abortions that put the life of the woman in danger. Women will continue to have abortions for reasons beyond medical emergency, whether or not the government legalizes them. We will also continue our support for the right of a patient with mortal illnesses to choose the manner and method of his or her own death in an honorable and dignified manner, rather than to have life slipped feebly and painfully away. Finally, we believe that research into cloning technologies can lead to medical knowledge that would permit the growth of organs for transplanation. As long as a human being is not cloned, we believe benefits to patients are too great to pass up. All three of these measures will lead directly to the reduction of the quality of life for our citizens. We do not require our citizens to have abortions or to engage in euthanasia, but to take away their rights to do so is the wrong decision to make. We hope this sheds some light on our vote. |

Message | Concerning the third article, we would agree cloning is illegal, but reasearch is permitted. We are surprised that option isn't available there, but is in regard to nuclear and chemical weapons. We do not entirely understand nor approve of the current measures, and would abstain when presented alone. The other two propositions we cannot endorse. |
