Bill: Source Code Reform 2282
Details
Submitted by[?]: Dorvik Liberal-Republican Party
Status[?]: defeated
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: May 2284
Description[?]:
Open and Closed source software should both be recognized. While it is obvious that open and thus "free" source would create substantial economic and legal losses, closed source software MUST exist. This co-existance could create new business opprotunities and would not hinder the progress of technological advancement. For example: Companies could make the software available as open-source, so that people would be more than likely to purchase a related product or service that is sold. Linux, a very reputable and successful operating system, is distributed as through open source methods, yet maintains an installation and customer support fee. It is vital for this government to show a stance on this subject, for technological progress must be promoted. |

Message | We agree that the government MUST recognize that there is a difference between open and closed source software. Going even farther the government must take actions to protect the integrity of closed source software while still allowing the development of open source software without fear of penalty. IE: Closed source software rights and patents should be respected by those creating open source software. Open source developers should be allowed to release their original work without fear of corporate interference. Closed source software should not be able to corner a market and open source software should not be allowe to skirt patent protections. |
