Message | I dont think assemble in groups really has anything to do with riots. Riots to me isn't assembling, its disturbing the peace. I dont think the current legislation would prevent dispersal of a riot. |

Message | What are you on about? Riots are the result of unsafe groups who are allowed by law to assemble and plot about their criminal activity in public, so if police have the power to disperse an unsafe group, everything will be a little safer for all. |
Date | 17:06:16, June 29, 2005 CET | From | Rationalist Party | To | Debating the Public Assembly |
Message | The idea is that generally riots do not start out as riots, and that there are warning signs that a riot is about to occur. If at this point police can break up the group, there are fewer arrests and less damage to businesses. |

Message | Innocent until proven guilty. If they haven't done anything wrong yet, they shouldnt' be punished/broken up. Exactly what "signs" are you talking about anyway? |

Message | Crowd reaction to a speaker, speakers words (inciting a riot is a crime), violence and destruction of property. Under current legislation the police could only pull out those who were actually commit a crime, putting officers in danger from outraged protesters. This bill will not restrict those who wish to protest, just provide for the safety of those around. |

Message | Well if they are using violence and destructing property, they are committing crimes and can be locked up. |

Message | Have you ever walked past a large group its quiet worrying. Also if we stop groups from forming it will stop groups before they comite a crime, its no good trying to stop them after they break the law. |

Message | But that would be like invading a country because you think they are going to attack you in the future.... |
