Bill: Goods and Services Tax Elimination Bill

Details

Submitted by[?]: Telamon Royalist Party

Status[?]: passed

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: January 2290

Description[?]:

The GST is a retrograde tax, one which preys on those people who need to purchase bread, water, housing, and the other essentials of life. Now, I hear my collegues in the Centre Party now, saying, "Well, we ALL purchase those items! The tax is equal!" And yes, it is. Therein lies the problem. Because if you need, say, 800 pounds to make it through the month, well, a five percent tax on your goods increases the amount of money you need to make it through the month to 840 pounds. Now, if you make several thousand pounds in a month, that's hardly noticeable. But what if you only make, say, 1000 pounds? Suddenly that extra 40 pounds a month in expences is MUCH more noticeable.

Since there are other ways to make the money our nation needs to operate, say by raising taxes on luxury goods and corporations, the need for a GST is far outweighed by the damage it does to the nation. We say, begone, vile tax, and good riddance!

MessageThe UCA will support this tax reduction. We do not generally favour regressive taxes, particularly not on essential items and we would like to see a general tax decrease and so will support this

Random fact: Moderation will not accept Cultural Protocol updates which introduce, on a significant scale, cultures which are likely to be insufficiently accessible to players. In particular, for all significant cultures in Particracy, it should be easy for players to access and use online resources to assist with language translation and the generation of character names. Moderation reserves the right to amend Cultural Protocols which are deemed to have introduced significant cultures that are not sufficiently accessible and which are not being actively role-played with.
