Bill: Alcohol legalization act of 2291
Details
Submitted by[?]: Telamon Royalist Party
Status[?]: defeated
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: March 2292
Description[?]:
"The debate has been going on for years as to if, how, and when we should end the ban on alcohol in this country. It's obvious that prohibition doesn't work; it simply turns people who's only crime is being thirsty into hardened criminals, and gives those people who are already criminals one more thing to supply through the criminal underworld. It's simply not worth the enforcement to keep banning it. "Now, we don't suggest open season on alcohol. There should be a legal minimum age to drink, and we suggest that it be the same as it is for the legal status of adulthood. As one of my constituents told me when I went home for the weekend, 'If you can vote, you should be able to drink. After all, when you look at who's available to vote for, you NEED a drink.' While this might not say much about me, personally, I understand where the gentleman was coming from. We need the freedom to quench a thirst in this fair country of ours. A toast, to the end of prohibition!" -- Edward Vantress, TRP MP for Newhollow South |

Message | Err, damn. This is too close to the elections for us to opt out and risk the damage to our visibility. We can't vote for it because we'd be seen as too progressive. I'm sorry, but I'll have to vote against. Just hope the Centrists support you. |

Message | Ah, well. Alcohol will just have to stay off the shelves until after the next election, we guess. But rest assured, thirsty Telamonians, the taps WILL open in the future! |
