Bill: Fair Tolerance Bill

Details

Submitted by[?]: Green Workers Party

Status[?]: defeated

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: January 2294

Description[?]:

For too long now, bigotry and homophobia, much of it driven by outdated Catholic attitudes and male insecurity, has seen Lusitania's gay and lesbian population beaten, downtrodden, and generally living as second-class citizens. This is unacceptable in any state that considers itself civilised.

The GWP therefore proposes to remove all legislative discrimination as a first step in changing public (and state) attitudes towards homosexuality, and integrating such folk as valid and equal citizens of our society.

Firstly, whil crossdressing is not necessarily a homosexual activity (and is in fact being more a product of heterosexual male fetish) we believe that the state's policing of the gender divide is both silly and absurd. For a government supposedly concerned with keeping out of people's lives, this is heavy-handed and completely unnecessary.

Secondly, if the government is so interested in attracting people into the military, then why are we turning away from it, or forcing people to hide who they are to stay in? The reasons for prohibiting gays in the military are irrational, prejudiced and do not reflect the kind of society we aspire to. Let the barriers come down so we can create an army that truly reflects the diversity of modern Lusitania.

Lastly, we believe that sex education is extremely important - for all Lusitanians. Young people need to know how their bodies work, how to prevent STDs and unwanted pregnancies, and young homosexuals need to know that their feelings are validated and ok. A comprehensive sex education program from the Years 5 - 10 will make sure every Lusitanian child is given the information he or she needs to feel good in their body, avoid serious mistakes and make informed sexual decisions. If this is left up to the parents or individual schools, we know that many children will miss out due to embarrassment or religious objections - and this ignorance will harm the children first.

Random fact: Cabinet ministers who disagree seriously with the head of government would usually be expected to resign. Parties within the cabinet may attempt to manoeuvre to replace the head of government though, for example by proposing a new cabinet bill or voting for an early election.

Random quote: "It is obvious that the laissez-faire ideology represents the interests of big business. For decades, the right-wing has opposed welfare programs and nationalised companies, in favour of big business disguised under 'economic liberty'." - Cecilia Xu, former Gaduri politician
