Presidente da República da Lusitânia. |

Message | "Separation of church from state is an essential requirement for true religious freedom. The SLP fails to see how it could be any other way. These proposals do not enforce secularism on anyone. By forbidding teachers to lead prayers in public schools we are ensuring that the religious beliefs of each and every individual students are not squashed and overridden with a teacher's religious views. Teacher's are obliged to keep their faith to themselves and maintain a neutral religious environment in schools. Those who want prayers to be recited in schools can opt for religious schools pertaining to their particular religious denomination. Taxing religion is simply the only to establish equal status to that of any other organisation. We will not allow companies such as 'Diet Pepsi and Jesus Limited.' to continue to operate their business under the cloak of religion. All organisation religious or otherwise must pay their fair share of taxes. Charitable donations are naturally exempt from taxes." - Guy Verhofstadt, Leader of the opposition. |

Message | There are NO public schools in Lusitânia. Our Government privatizised the Education System. As we believe that Christian values are inherent to our society we believe that schools should have the right to decide whether do they make teacher led-prayers or not. And so the people have the right to chose the school their child will be considering that. What the SLP is proposing is and imposition os Secularism over the People. There is SEPARATION between the Church and the State in the sense that membership of the State Religion is completely VOLUNTARY. You fail to see that. We will not reach any consensus this way. |

Message | We abstain because we think religions should not be treated as companies. That's, I have to say, stupid. In this matter I agree with what the PP have said: it is stealing! |
Date | 22:05:51, October 09, 2006 CET | From | Social Liberal Party | To | Debating the SLP - Proposal for Secularism |
Message | There will never be a civilized world without taxes. Never has been and never will be. Libertarianism is even more utopian as communism in this regard. The Social Liberal Party will not relieve taxes for corporations that operate under the guise of religions." - Guy Verhofstadt. |
