Bill: Teitavistan Revolution: KHS

Details

Submitted by[?]: Lotus Coalition of the Endless Knot

Status[?]: defeated

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: October 2297

Description[?]:

"Of all the things past governments have failed in providing for the people this is perhaps the worse. The citizens of Keymon have for too long been stuck with no way to find help if they get injured or sick and are unable to pay for it. As such we propose the formation of the Keymon Health Service (KHS) in which the vast majority of hospitals will be nationalised and the doctors, nurses and administrative staff fall under the pay roll of the civil service. A small number of private clinics will continue to exist, albeit under government regulation, to cater for operations that are seen as non-essential such as voluntary cosmetic surgery and other 'vanity projects'.

In the long run this will be a self funding project as sorts as the people will be healthier so will work harder and produce more, furthermore if we can make more and more people better and ready to rejoin the workforce then future visits to hospitals will be cut and costs fall. Of course this will need a large increase in health spending probably through a tax increase and the KHS itself will not be able to begin operating until such funding is available, but we will leave that until a new Health and Social Services Minister is appointed."
