Message | I can understand the legislation against hate speech, but the press should be free to speak out against the government if need be, provided their information is correct. I will be against this bill. |
Date | 15:32:07, July 03, 2005 CET | From | People's National Party | To | Debating the Media Responsibility Act |
Message | The press will be free to speak out against the government. What this legislation will do is prevent the media from printing things that are traitorous or would undermine our democratic system. For example publications demanding violent revolution would not be able to be printed as these would place the safety of the public at risk and threaten our beloved democracy. I think these regulations are necessary for public safety but also ensuring a healthy degree of media freedom. |
Date | 16:11:18, July 03, 2005 CET | From | Fantastic Party | To | Debating the Media Responsibility Act |
Message | I would be more willing to vote yes on this were it not for the zealous oppression the current administration has imparted on it's people in the past. This is a further thinly disguised attempt to impede democracy. |
