Bill: Social Housing Bill

Details

Submitted by[?]: Artanian Sozialistische Arbeiterpartei

Status[?]: defeated

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: March 2308

Description[?]:

We propose that money is invested in the building of social housing for the poor. These houses will be rented cheaply to people who are low income, or unable to support themselves, or in need of state help. Their rents will be paid to local councils, who will be responsible for maintaining the properties. This will ensure that all Dorvikians will have access to acceptable standards of living in their homes, ie running water, electricity.

MessageOpposed. This will simply concentrate poor people in certain areas. We don't want a ghettoised society, especially not one created by the government.

MessageBut aren't poor people already concentrated in poor areas, in shacks and shantytowns, or in rows of terraced housing? At least with government investment they will be able to live in homes that are set to a certain standard. Besides, even without this, do the Greens really believe that the different classes mix in their residential areas?
