Bill: Recreation

Details

Submitted by[?]: Enlightened Socialist Party

Status[?]: passed

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: October 2077

Description[?]:

The ESP believes that, to increase individual freedom, recreational drugs that are natural and not artificial should be legalised, either as a standalone bit of legislation or as a stepping stone to full legalisation. Whilst we do wish it to be adults only, like alcohol and tobacco, otherwise, people should be free to have fun so long as it does not harm others. Legalising these will also cut drug-related crime, as drug dealing will become pointless if these can be purchased legally through shops.

MessageWe strongly oppose this. We shall not let this barbaric and vandal act pass.

MessageThe LRU is highly hypocritical. They wish to allow everyone to smoke and drink whatever they wish, even young children, but they oppose anything else.

MessageFrom that point of view, the ESP also takes an extremely hypocritical stance: they want to forbid certain people from using certain drugs, but on the other hand, they demand the legalisation of much more dangerous drugs.

From Enlightened Socialist Party
ToDebating the Recreation
MessageWe wish to forbid young children, at an age when they are incapable of making informed decisions, from having alcohol and tobacco, but when they become adults then people should be allowed to do whatever they wish so long as it harms nobody else.

From Enlightened Socialist Party
ToDebating the Recreation
MessageWe do not take the stance to forbid adults from harming themselves, but children should be as they cannot yet make these decisions in an informed manner.

MessageSaridan has free education throughout life, we believe that our teachers are capable of properly informing our young citizens on these issues without limiting their freedom of choice.

MessageCan a six year old choose if he/she wants to smoke or not? We think not, especially with the influence of companies who want them to do so. A teacher, who will likely be considered 'uncool', compared to Joe Camel or whatever cartoon menace they think up who'll be urging children to smoke on every television channel multiple times a day.

ToDebating the Recreation
MessageAgain, the child has a set of parents (or a guardian) to guide the child and the parent or guardian will be educated. Not every corporation is evil and not every citizen is stupid, we remind the ESP.

From Enlightened Socialist Party
ToDebating the Recreation
MessageWe proposed new legislation showing the importants of parents and guardians.

Date11:10:42, July 08, 2005 CET
From Commercial Freedom
ToDebating the Recreation
MessageWe believe that educating youths about drugs and their dangers is a step to ban drugs not an excuse to legalise drugs. We oppose.

Random fact: Cultural Protocol bills must provide a real-life equivalent or short description for the ethnic groups, languages and religions contained in them, such that it would be easy for an unfamiliar player to understand (e.g. "Dundorfian = German"). Where appropriate, they should also provide guidance to players on where to find help with translations and character names. This might include, for example, links to Google Translate, Behind the Name's Random Name Generator and Fantasy Name Generators.
