Message | Can we exclude convicted pedophiles please. |
Date | 03:38:12, July 04, 2005 CET | From | MLTP (The Resistance) | To | Debating the Non-discriminatory Adoptions |
Message | We actually concur. The bill should set down guidlines for how one may qualify to adopt a child. That said, we support the spirit and intent of the bill 100%. |

Message | Certainly necessary legislation. Would the Equitista be amenable to allowing the birth mother to choose the adoptive parents? |

Message | We would question the intent of the proposal concerning the birth mother choosing the adoptive parents? Surely adoption is between the adopers and the child being adopted. The birth mother is already shown to be irresponsible by having a child in circumstances under which she has to give up the child for adoption, or she is not living or identified to make the choice. The adoptive parents, if approved, should be those that actually make the choice as to whether to adopt or not any specific child. We agree that specific conditions that are to be necessary to qualify as adopters should be in the bill, as requested by the MLTP |

Message | Again, how about a companion proposal for the adoption law. At present it is not regulated. If you want to prevent Paedophiles and the like, you could select "Adoption is strictly regulated by the government. Only by passing several test and by following an intensive program applicants can adopt children." but we would prefer leaving the option to local governments. |

Message | The choices of proposals do not allow an option which is non-discriminatory on the basis of sexual orientation but discrimatory on other factors. Therefore this bill now carries an addendum regarding the sentencing of paedophiles. |

Message | I'll change my vote to "yea" if you would please change the proposal to "Adoption is strictly regulated by the government. Only by passing several test and by following an intensive program applicants can adopt children.". |

Message | Unfortunately there isn't a proposal which says that, it relates only to the sexual orientation of potential adopters. However, we've added the line: "Suitability of potential adopters will be ascertained through screening which does not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, gender or sexual orientation." We hope that although this is not as specific as you would wish, you will appreciate that even this statement is bending the strict remit of the proposal. |

Message | There is another adoption proposal, I think thats what the DSP is talking about. |

Message | Bah, tautology on some. |
