MessageIs the cut really necessary? Indrala has a superavit.

Anyway, we can't vote for an increase in defence spending.

MessageOOC: I think a superavit is budget surplus. Being from Australia I have not come across the term. I will proceed with the assumption that that is what the word means.

We don't need the surplus that we have, it is not fair to taxpayers who should have a greater degree of freedom to spend their income as they see fit. Also, by slimlining government we will encourage growth.

The budget increase in defence would be strictly used for defensive purposes and to assist embattled allies abroad. I think i speak on behalf of the entire legislature in saying that Indrala should never aspire to becoming an expansionist nation. Even so, we still need to defend ourselves, whether through prevention or defence.

The SLP understands that the IHP is ideologically opposed to military increases and war in general, but surely it understands that having an adequate defence is a prerequisite for peace. If we have no defence, we invite invaders. With an adequate one, we deter them.

There is no room for sticking to an anti-military ideology when Indrala is surrounded by war mongering, totalitarian, fascist, chauvanistic despots. We want peace too, and that is what this budget allows for.
