Bill: Lower the Gates
Details
Submitted by[?]: Liberty Party of Saridan
Status[?]: defeated
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: May 2083
Description[?]:
As citizens of Saridan, our people have a right to choose where they live, what car they drive, and so much more. Yet currently we deny them the right to feel safe at night while they sleep with their children in the next room. It's time we say no to injustice and allow our wonderful citizens to sleep soundly if that is what they so desire. |

From | Commercial Freedom | To | Debating the Lower the Gates | Message | We agree, people should have the right to pay extra for security. There shouldn't be any reason to ban people from choosing to live where they want. |

From | Enlightened Socialist Party | To | Debating the Lower the Gates | Message | This denys people the right to choose where they wish to live, and creates racism, hatred, and fear. Is Saridan a nation to be ruled in cloisters of xenophobia and disgust? We think not. Whilst there are possibly in perhaps a hundredth of cases legitimate reasons for these communities to be created, the other 99% will simply be from racism or hate, and thus we oppose. |

From | Liberty Party of Saridan | To | Debating the Lower the Gates | Message | We see the UDA's point of how the Government could lead to some corruption and problems with alloting tax money so we have amended the bill. |
Date | 02:21:47, July 15, 2005 CET |
From | freedom party | To | Debating the Lower the Gates | Message | We believe that all citizens have the right to live how and where they wish. Including the gating of communities.
It is not the job of government to socially engineer what we desire. However we do not support the government involvement. This is a private sector issue. |

From | Slytherius Party | To | Debating the Lower the Gates | Message | Yes please, for the sake of safety, private gated communities should be allowed. |
Date | 18:19:08, July 15, 2005 CET |
From | Enlightened Socialist Party | To | Debating the Lower the Gates | Message | All citizens have a right to live how and where they wish, which is destroyed by the concept of a gated community! These will not be formed to stop criminals, but to keep the blacks/jews/muslims/sikhs/christians out. And that is racism and hatred, pure and simple. |
Date | 14:45:05, July 16, 2005 CET |
From | Commercial Freedom | To | Debating the Lower the Gates | Message | I might have misunderstood the term "Gated Community". Please include a definition so there is no confusion. I merely thought they were communities with extra security. |

From | Commercial Freedom | To | Debating the Lower the Gates | Message | Never mind, I was right. I found the definition: In its modern form, a gated community is a form of closed community, characterized by a controlled entrance for pedestrians, bicycles, and automobiles, usually staffed by full-time, private security guards, that leads into one or more small residential streets, with walls or fences surrounding the perimeter of the entire development. Many gated communities have various amenities which make it possible for residents to stay within the community for day-to-day activities.

From | Commercial Freedom | To | Debating the Lower the Gates | Message | Thought despite this I agree with ESP and I now am against. Before it didn't occur to me that people may make gated communities because of racial issues. In an attempt to lower racial issues in Saridan we oppose. |
Date | 18:15:42, July 16, 2005 CET |
From | LCS Christian Libertarian Party | To | Debating the Lower the Gates | Message | We are in favor, despite the incredibly stupid racial arguments that have been forth. People in Saridan want to shut crime out. |
Date | 12:38:38, July 17, 2005 CET |
From | Enlightened Socialist Party | To | Debating the Lower the Gates | Message | These 'gated communities' will just be cliques used to project power and restrict the freedoms of others. Crime would be slightly reduced in these areas, but it would also be used to turn away 'undesirables' from these communities, which would purely be used to keep the blacks/jews/muslims/sikhs/christians out. This bill CANNOT GO AHEAD IF WE WISH TO BE A FREE AND FAIR SOCIETY. |
Date | 20:14:22, July 18, 2005 CET |
From | Liberty Party of Saridan | To | Debating the Lower the Gates | Message | This bill MUST go ahead for Saridan to be a free society. People have a basic right to choose where they live and how they live and it shouldn't even be up to the government to determine whether or not they may live in a community with added security! |
Date | 00:24:11, July 19, 2005 CET |
From | freedom party | To | Debating the Lower the Gates | Message | Racism being brought into the issue is shameful.
You are determining motive with no evidence or justification. It is shameful.
The freedom party whole heartedly supports this bill. |
Date | 12:49:18, July 19, 2005 CET |
From | Slytherius Party | To | Debating the Lower the Gates | Message | Gated communities are not ghettos, for heaven's sake!If you are so concerned with discrimination issue, make a fair housing act and state clearly that no housing may be denied to minorities.Or something along these lines.

From | freedom party | To | Debating the Lower the Gates | Message | We simply have no right to socially engineer. It is not the place of good government.
Irrational thoughts like racism cannot be forced out. All attempting to do that will do is cause a more bitter and devisive hatred. |
Date | 08:57:19, July 20, 2005 CET |
From | Commercial Freedom | To | Debating the Lower the Gates | Message | In a perfect society this would be fine but we might have to make some radical moves to stamp out racism completely. |
