Bill: Torture Act
Details
Submitted by[?]: Royal Socialist Party of Hulstria
Status[?]: defeated
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: January 2342
Description[?]:
The law currently states that torture is allowed only for grave emergencies. We believe that torture should neve be allowed. It is cruel and unusal, and if someone is innocent and did not know anything, all that would have been accomplished was an innocent person being scared for life. Torture is also something criminals would do, and the government should not go down to the level of a criminal. |
Proposals
Article 1
Proposal[?] to change The use of torture for obtaining information.
Old value:: Suspects can only be tortured under grave emergencies where the information is vital.
Current: Torture is never allowed.
Proposed: Torture is never allowed.

Message | because in grave emergencies such infomormation can be vital. If the torture of one person will lead to the preservation of a great many more then it is a reaosnable price to pay. |

Message | Torture is wrong and inhumane. It is the work of uncivilised savages, not of a modern society. Unfortunatly our extremists friends in the Diet are happy for the state to have the power to do whatever it wishes to our citizens, that's why they're facing electoral meltdown in february. |

Message | I assume you speak of the same meltdown you've been predicting every election since this government came to power over 18 years ago? |
Date | 18:05:00, January 09, 2007 CET | From | Refuge Pressure Party | To | Debating the Torture Act |
Message | Actually we only predicted a victory twice, in the first one and in the one where the legislature was split down the middle. Every other election our polls have told us we were losing, this time they tell us different. |
