Bill: Agricultural advancement bill

Details

Submitted by[?]: Adam Smith Party

Status[?]: defeated

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: March 2083

Description[?]:

Taking into consideration that the natural reproduction process of plants involves random and uncontrolled genetic modification, and considering that our farmers and horticulturists have used cross breeding techniques for centuries, we see no motivation whatsoever for the fear and irrational reaction to the idea that genetic modification should be managed by us rather than by chance.

Thus it is proposed that we liberate genetic modification techniques in our nation. This will allow us to recover our food self sufficiency lost due to the changes in agricultural practice that has occurred in Kregon, it will eliminate the need to use a large number of pesticides, fungicides and other potentially harmful chemicals and will increase the income of our small farmers by increasing their crop yield.

All products that are genetically modified or use genetically modified ingredients in their production shall be clearly labelled as such. The responsibility for ensuring that this labelling is correct lies with the packagers for national products or importers for imported goods. The labelling shall include a clear statement that the packaging or product has 'genetically modified contents' which shall be easily legible and clearly visible to the consumer.

MessageIt would appear that no policy is wanted. One proposal to regulate failed, and this to deregulate is failing.
