Bill: The Military
Details
Submitted by[?]: Likaton Coalition of the Willing
Status[?]: passed
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: February 2352
Description[?]:
The LITP has a long history of opposition to Nuclear and Chemical/Biological weapons. In a spirit of compromise, however, we understand that the prevailing view is that we need some sort of WMD defences. With that in mind, we hereby drop our dogged resistance to the Likaton Nuclear programme, contingent on our withdrawal from Chemical/Biological weapons technology. This technology is always one that is aimed at human beings, rather than physical targets such as buildings and tanks. It is aimed at causing injury and loss of life. We appreciate that other nations may not be so moral as ourselves, so we are grudgingly aware that we need to maintain research into the technologies to defend against them. Additionally, we feel that should Likatonia be attacked, all Likatonians should be ready to serve in our defence. We propose that all adults may be called upon, but ONLY in war where Likaton are not the aggressor. This provision should not be used in wars of conquest or retailiation. |

Message | We find that an inaccurate statement on the uses of chemical weapons, as they are very useful on a battlefield, the most effective way to kill the guy in the tank if you can't destroy the tank. It is accurate that biological weapons are generally used against civilian populations, although even that is an overgeneralization. At bottom, however, the key in our view to the morality of the weapons is the point of law that we shall not use them against another nation that has not used them against us first. If another nation were to unleash such weapons on our civilians, we would then have no problem with using them in retaliation. We strongly agree we should never be the first to use them; but that is current law, and one we continue to support. We do not believe in saying to other nations that they risk nothing if they bring forth a plague on our nation, however. |
