NEW ENDRALON: President Natalie Jane Prior will send 835 troops to Sodali to quell two days of rioting and looting sparked by Libertarian Socialists of Endralon.
Natalie Jane Prior said troops were on their way in four C-130 Hercules aircraft. Another 470 police will also back a 780-strong police unit already in the Sodali as part of a peacekeeping operation.
Rioters burned shops and buildings.
"There is a lot of fear. People are just hoping the military will calm things down," Natalie Jane Prior said.
Schools, banks, supermarkets, post offices and other government buildings were closed as the rioting stretched into a second day.
The Casino Hotel and three other buildings were in flames after they were attacked by stone-throwing protesters. Police evacuated about 250 hotel guests, Prior said.
At least 80 officers were injured, a senior police union official said Friday. Rioters were seen firing buckshot at police and reporters. About 30 of 80 injured officers were hit by buckshot, Prior told.
Rioters also hurled stones and Molotov cocktails at police, authorities said.
Police fired rubber bullets and arrested 1334 people.
"We will not let go. We will fight with all the force the nation is capable of," President Natalie Jane Prior told. She promised reinforced security for Saturday night.Signed,
