--NEWSFLASH--
The Democratic Socialist Party has announced that it will be stepping down from the political stage in Tukarali. Despite still retaining most of the country's ministries, the party and its allies lost overall majority and Head of State power in the last election.
"It is a deep tragedy in the state of Tukarali," party leader Susan Reeve told reporters. "Although the DSP has for years been one of the most powerful parties in the nation, the sheer number of right-wing parties, outnumbering the left by almost three-to-one, has made progress impossible. It is therefore with a saddened heart that I make this announcement: the party is withdrawing from politics."
Reeve's statement was met with deep shock from the crowd at the party's annual conference, with an attendance of some 18,000 delegates. She continued, "Make no mistake - the DSP is far from dead. We have not abandoned our citizens. But we will instead fund co-operatives, trade unions and activist groups from abroad. The corruption of the rogue government will be destroyed by the power of the workers. Long live Tukarali!"
Since the announcement, the party has made no further comment, other than a brief statement by Head of Government Robert Bradshaw to endorse the Social Dynamist Party. This development will surely rock the politics of the region for years to come.
