Description[?]:
The TomasianDouglasian Party is committed to ensuring social justice through economic progress. To this end, we believe that there is a clear federal responsability in matters of education, transportation, national defence, immigration, ecology and health. All other matters should be in the province of the provinces. The Federal government will however intervene to ensure minimal levels of service in other areas of jurisdiction. External relations will be governed by the principle of maintaining peaceful relations and peacekeeping though we will assist our allies against aggression. The TomasianDouglasian Party was founded in 2334 by a coalition of likeminded, loyal and prominent Kalistani citizens. The First Leader of the TDP is Edward Kalisari Bentbroad, a Professor of Economics at the University of Ananto, in Kaliburg. Notable members of the TDP Founding Executive Committee are: Louis Stephen David: Leader of the Parliamentary Delegation (Merchant/Small Businessman; from Fehzkar, Vrassa) Robert Perley-Rae: Foreign Affairs Critic and son of former Diplomat John Perley-Rae (Lawyer and Former Mayor of Dahriel, Ananto) Wascy Lisa Leis: Internal Affairs Critic and 25 generation Kalistani (Social Worker from Beom, Neveras) Floyd Kalisa Aloughren: Finance Critic (Professor of Economics at the Kalistan College in Luxon, Ananto) J.S. Worthwoods: Defence Critic (Retired Naval Admiral in the Kalistani Republican Navy; from Eshar, Odufaray) Elliot Truman Pearson: Justice Critic (Journalist/Editorialist for the Newspaper "KalistaniLibre", from Vrassa City, Vrassa) Norman Bethune: Health/Social Services Critic (Surgeon/Writer, from Eveari, Ananto; practicing at Sunnyset University in Fehzkar, Vrassa) Belinda McKay: Trade and Industry Critic (CEO Shipbuilding Parts Company "Summa", from Dahriel, Ananto) Nade Ralver: Environment Critic (Journalist/Writer for the newspaper "The Reynoldia Report", Reynoldia, Suldanor) Louis Armand: Infrastructure and Transport Critic (Fisherman and retired Naval Officer (Lieutenant) Kalistani Republican Navy, from Ganderis, Odufaray) In 2335, after less than one year of existence as an official party, the TomasianDouglasian Party successfully passed its first pieces of legislation marking the foundation of its policy for the Federal Republic of Kalistan. 1) The Constitutional Amendment to clarify Kalistani Republic terminology; 2) The Kalistani Clean Workplace Act; 3) the Paediatric Pulmonary Protection Act; 4) the Kalistani Safety in Agriculture and Chemical Regulation Act; 5) The Public Safety Act. In the first National elections contested by the TDP (2336), Mr. Bentbroad placed second in the Presidential race, losing to Mahmoud Abbas in the run-off (58-42%). The TDP placed second in the Parliamentary elections with 141/615 seats by garnering over 11million votes. The TDP formed their first government as the Provincial Government of Ananto with 56 of 148 seats (38% of the popular vote). Premier Jack Stokes was sworn in as provincial government leader with his cabinet at a modest ceremony in Kaliburg in October 2336. In April 2337, the first two members of the TDP were sworn into Cabinet: Elliot Truman Pearson, MP (Vrassa-Mount Royal) as Minister of Justice; Admiral J.S. Worthwoods, MP (Eshar-The Beaches) as Minister of Defence. |

Random quote: "I am a conservative to preserve all that is good in our constitution, a radical to remove all that is bad. I seek to preserve property and to respect order, and I equally decry the appeal to the passions of the many or the prejudices of the few." - Benjamin Disraeli |
