Description[?]:
The Conservative Party of Selucia was founded in 2858 by John Hughes. After leading the party for over 30 years in the legislature and as President of Selucia, he retired from public service in 2893 to be replaced by the new leader of the party, Senator Edward S. Scott, who would become President of Selucia that same year. In 2898, when the ICP attempted to overthrow the Selucian government and install a religious cult, the Conservative Party resigned from the cabinet and President Scott called for elections as often as possible--only to be defeated by the ICP which was afraid of the people ousting them--which soon enough the people would do. In 2899, the Conservative Party launched its "Selucia First" campaign. It was not soon after this campaign the ICP lost control of government and never regained the power it had abused. While all Conservative members who have become President of Selucia may be considered "popular," it was not until the leadership of President Bennett that the Conservative Party consistently led the nation as the largest party. When Peter Drummond became president he enjoyed large majorities in the Senate as well as some of the largest majorities for his personal election in Selucian history--all this with turnout at or exceeding 80%. In 2831 an attack on a naval vessel prompted President Drummond to ask for the first income tax since the Conservative Party abolished it in April 2862. The new tax rate was capped at 1% and its added revenues were strictly reserved for defence and education. The Conservative Party's platform stands for: - Limited government - Low taxes - Federalism - Strong military - Strong international presence - Sovereignty of Selucia - Free markets - Christian values Leaders of the Conservative Party: John W. Hughes (Leader 2858-2892), President of Selucia -- 2860-66, 72-74, 80-92 Edward S. Scott (Leader 2892-2910), President of Selucia -- 2893-2904 John H. Bennett (Leader 2910-2924), President of Selucia -- 2911--2924 Peter J. Drummond (Leader 2924-present), President of Selucia --2924--2838 |

Random fact: When it comes to creating a Cultural Protocol in a Culturally Open nation, players are not necessarily required to provide a plausible backstory for how the nation's cultural background developed. However, the provision of a plausible backstory may be a factor in whether Moderation approves the Cultural Protocol if players in surrounding nations question its appropriateness for their region of the game map. |
